Picking up the seismometers

Updated: Jan 28, 2019

On Jan. 15, we picked up all of the 100 seismic nodes and the 48-channel Geode system of cabled geophones. It took us about 2 hours to pack up the geophones, and the rest of the day to retrieve all of the nodes.

We measured the orientations again upon picking up the nodes to check that they were oriented to true north.

We tested small snow plates on 10 of the geophones to see whether it improved the coupling.

Picking up the cabled geophones. For almost the entire project, the geophones were buried under 1.5-2 feet of snow, but we uncovered them for the last 2 shots to do some testing.

Packing up our Arctic Oven field tent and final pieces of gear to take back to WAIS Divide.

We caught a glimpse of the WAS traverse as they returned to WAIS Divide from Lower Thwaites.

Our final task to wrap up our field site was pulling the flag line that had guided us back and forth to our work site each day. You can see the buildings of WAIS Divide in the background of this photo.
