Daily routine at WAIS Divide

Our approximate daily routine at WAIS Divide during our field work was approximately as follows:

7AM Breakfast in the Galley 7:30AM Attend camp meeting led by James 7:45AM Morning stretching with the whole camp (with a Richard Simmons video viewing on Mondays...) 8AM Pack lunches, pack computers and handheld devices that charged overnight, pack equipment for the day, load sleds behind snow machines. ~8:30AM Check in with James and the weather observers, Stephanie and Dave, regarding weather and work plans for the day. We couldn't work if the visibility was lower than ~500 meters for safety reasons. We usually told camp we'd be back by 8PM, and a few times we had to extend that to 10 or 11PM. ~9AM Drive out to field base on snow machines, pick up additional equipment, re-organize sleds, if necessary, and start tasks for the day.

~9:30AM-8PM Working in our field area.

~8-9PM Pack up equipment that needs charging in camp, pack sleds for return to WAIS Divide.

~9:30PM Return to WAIS Divide, refuel snow machines, find an awesome warm dinner cooked by the camp chef, Anna, waiting for us (!!!), get all equipment charging that needs it.

~10:30-11PM Head to our tents in Tent City to get some sleep.

WAIS Divide Galley dining room and recreational area.

WAIS Divide kitchen. I think I personally made a pretty large dent in one of those big peanut butter jars...

The food served in the Galley was excellent.

The extremely important tea and coffee station...

Cozy tent interior. The Snowy Owl sleeping bag by Feathered Friends is probably the most incredible comfy and warm sleeping bag I've ever used. I've never been warmer while snow camping in an unheated tent when the wind chill is -40 C. (Okay, this was my first time snow camping at those temperatures, but it was mostly very warm.)

Tent City at WAIS Divide. The small shed is a convenient outhouse.
