If you are interested in applying to graduate school in geosciences, GeoGradApp is an excellent resource that describes tips and tricks for applying to graduate school in geosciences. As an undergrad, one important thing you can do to prepare for graduate school is get involved with a research project. With some initial experience, you can start to recognize your existing strengths as well as areas for growth and learning. One exciting thing about working at a university is the opportunity to constantly learn new things! Seek out opportunities to build the skills you need for potential jobs, career, and life paths that interest you.

Computational and geophysics equipment
​
UTEP hosts a wide variety of computing and field geophysics equipment, and it is also home to the Earthscope Seismic Source Facility, led by Galen Kaip. These facilities are fantastic for learning field geophysical methods and conducting field geophysical surveys to address important science questions in our El Paso region (and beyond). There are also many exciting projects that involve no field work at all, so no worries if you prefer computer-based work.

UTEP’s connection with Bhutan and Bhutanese architecture

UTEP's campus is known for its striking architecture, inspired by the Himalayan mountain-top fortresses of the Kingdom of Bhutan. Since 1917, nearly all of the buildings on campus incorporate Bhutanese architectural elements—massive sloping walls, high inset windows, overhanging roofs, and darks bands of brick inset with mosaic-tiled mandalas. In the late 1960’s, an official relationship began between UTEP and the Kingdom of Bhutan, precipitated by a letter from a UTEP faculty member to the Bhutanese royal family.
The friendship between UTEP and the Kingdom of Bhutan has grown, and numerous cultural exchange events between UTEP and Bhutan have been organized. UTEP continues to value its special relationship with Bhutan and invitation to learn more about Bhutan through a Bhutan Day celebration every year and hosting many Bhutanese students.
