WELCOME
Geophysics is the study of the Earth's physical properties and processes including motion, waves, gravity, electricity, and magnetics. Team Geophysics at The University of Texas at El Paso is focused on studying the Earth from ice sheets to mountain ranges using geophysics, especially seismology. We are also passionate about communicating the importance of these studies to the public.
COMMUNITY
Science is integral to all communities as an approach for solving problems, improving our lives, and building resilience. We all use science everyday to explore and understand our local environments! Science is also fundamentally a community (team!) effort, so building a strong community is the first element in doing science.
GEOSCIENCE
Team Geophysics uses seismic and other geophysical imaging at a variety of scales to better understand glaciers, faults, active mountain building, hydrologic, and geothermal systems. We aim to image subsurface environmental structures in three dimensions and use those images and models to answer scientific questions about ice sheet evolution and change, tectonics, earthquake hazards, and resources.​
ACTION
Building knowledge has the most impact when we turn that knowledge into action! The action might be sharing scientific knowledge with your neighbors, inviting students to participate in scientific research, or changing behaviors to manage, preserve, and protect earth resources and natural landscapes.
Collective Impact in Earthquake Science
The NSF-funded Center for Collective Impact in Earthquake Science (C-CIES) fosters inclusive earthquake science to increase resilience in regions under-prepared for earthquakes.
